HospiceWits Soweto in Diepklook call forresidents to use its services

Management of the facility calls on the community of Soweto in need of home-based palliative care support from the institution to register for its services.

HospiceWits Soweto in Diepkloof is calling on the community of Soweto in need of home-based palliative care support from the institution to register for its services.

This is part of its continued outpatient services aimed at providing support and assistance to families with individuals who are terminally ill.

“We would like to inform the Soweto community that the organisation is still operational. Individuals living with life-threatening illnesses can still get home-based palliative care from HospiceWits Soweto,” said Iris Hlole, Intake officer at the institution.

She further explained the service included care for individuals suffering from cancer, HIV/AIDS, severe Kidney or Heart Failure and other life-threatening illnesses.

“Palliative care is a comprehensive approach to the challenges that come with disease. The Inter Disciplinary Team is responsible for dealing with physical, psychological, social and spiritual pain,” she said, adding that home-based community care workers work along-side the home care nurses.

The health service was forced to close down its in-patient unit in November 2019 due to a lack of funding and the costs of providing a 24-hour care facility, but continued to provide home-based palliative care.

Families with individuals who are living with life-threatening illness can register for the home based palliative care services at HospiceWits Soweto situated in Diepkloof Zone 3, Eben Cuyler Drive next to Diepkoof Hall and Diepkloof Clinic or contact the institution on 011 528 0832.
