UPDATE: Two suspects arrested for Eldorado shooting

According to Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, spokesperson of the Eldorado Police, suspects are aged 19 and 22.

Two male suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting incident in Eldorado Park Extension 4, in which four people were shot on Wednesday 8 June.

Suspects were arrested on Friday 10, June.

According to Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, spokesperson of the Eldorado Police, suspects are aged 19 and 22.

Since the incident the Eldorado Park SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Maluleke had a 72 hour activation plan.

Maluleke said the plan included the maximum mobilisation of resources including Crime intelligence, Crime Prevention and Tracing Team members.

“As a result of the members working non-stop and around the clock as well as the assistance of reliable witnesses, the members of Eldorado Park SAPS Tracing team commander and members,and Crime Prevention members, followed up on information and leads with regard to the whereabouts of the alleged suspects,” said Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, the communications officer at Eldorado Park SAPS.

At approximately 10pm last night the members made a breakthrough in ongoing investigations, and traced the alleged suspects to Ennerdale.

According to Gibb, the two alleged suspects were positively identified by a witness, linking them to the shooting incident which left five injured, two(2) of whom are scholars, currently attending school at Lancea Vale Secondary School in Eldorado Park.

Gibb added that both the suspects aged 19 and 22 are arrested and detained for the alleged charges of attempted murder. The duo are expected to appear before the respective court during the course of next week.

He furthermore added that this barbaric behaviour will not and cannot be tolerated nor accepted within the community of the Greater Eldorado Park.

The Station Commander indicated that investigation with regard to this incident continues, as he hopes for a hefty sentence imposed,and for justice to prevail for the victims and their families.

“The members of the Eldorado Park SAPS Crime Intelligence and Detective Unit are currently working on information which may further link the suspects to other incidents of shooting within the precinct,” shared Gibb.

Residents are again reminded that their continued support and positive information are breaching the gap of division among the SAPS and the community, and that without the dedicated residents and informers, breakthroughs such as these may take longer.

Residents are encouraged to continue reporting any positive information relating to the commission of crime, as well as to continue reporting the whereabouts of wanted suspects, because team work does after all make the dream work of a crime free Greater Eldorado Park possible.
