Ekuphumeleleni takes delivery of new library

The library was donated by Hyundai Automotive South Africa in partnership with the Imperial and Motus Community Trust.

Ekuphumeleleni Primary School unveiled a new state of the art library and resource centre late last month.

The library was donated by Hyundai Automotive South Africa in partnership with the Imperial and Motus Community Trust.

It forms part of their community development programme where they have been donating state of the arts libraries at schools across the country.

The Ekuphumeleleni Primary School library is their first project in Soweto and it was warmly welcomed by the learners and teachers alike.

The principal of the school, Nompumelelo Mbele promised the donors that the library will be fully utilised by the learners.

“We are very grateful for this new library and I want to assure you that we will take good care of it,” Mbele said to the representatives of Hyundai Automotive South Africa and Imperial and Motus Community Trust before the cutting of the ribbon.

The handover ceremony was graced by the presence of soccer star, Hlompho Kekana who congratulated the learners of Ekuphumeleleni for being the recipients of such a precious resource.

“I’m currently working on my book about my life growing up in Limpopo and going on to play for one of the biggest teams in the country. Today I want to make a commitment that I will bring copies of my book to this school once it’s complete,” said the former Mamelodi Sundowns captain.

Teachers from neighbouring schools were also present at the handover ceremony to show their support to Ekuphumeleleni Primary School. Through this project, Hyundai has donated 12 libraries to schools across the country since 2019.

Nontobeko Khumalo from the automotive company said they were very excited about the handover of their first library in Soweto. “This means a lot to us as a company as we are on a mission to close the gap in the education system of our country,” said Khumalo.

.Pearl Khubeka from Imperial and Motus Community Trust shared the same sentiments about the library playing an important role in bridging the education and literacy gap in Soweto and the whole country.

The new library is not only stocked with modern books but it is also a multimedia centre with internet and computers for learners to use. A dedicated librarian will be deployed at the school to make sure that everything runs smoothly.
