Five suspects arrested for kidnapping and hijacking in the South

The suspects are profiled to determine if they are linked to other cases.

Officers from the Mondeor Police Station apprehended five suspects aged between 25 and 30 in Mayfield Park on May 27.

Captain Lunga Dube, spokesperson for Mondeor SAPS said, “Police were on patrol when they noticed a silver-blue Hyundai i30 with no registration plate on the side of the road.

“Upon closer investigation, it was found that the victim was inside the vehicle. He informed the police that he was hijacked in Eden Park. According to the victim, suspects fired shots and forced him inside their vehicle.

“The vehicle was searched and an unlicensed firearm with its serial numbers filed off, as well as ammunition were found.

“The suspects were arrested and will soon appear in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court.”

The firearm has been sent for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in other crimes.

The suspects are profiled to see if they are linked to other cases.

Dube further said, “Mondeor Police Station commander Colonel JJ Bezuidenhoudt commended his members for their swift arrest and their commitment to ensuring the safety of the community.”

The cases of hijacking, kidnapping and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition are investigated by officials.
