Cleaner working towards corporate position

Cleaner obtains Marketing certificate

With a certificate in marketing, cleaner Lindile Guda, from Brakpan, is working towards one day landing a position within a corporate.

The 36-year-old completed a marketing course at Erkuhuleni East TVET College after he matriculated, but despite this, found that he could not get a job without a diploma.

For the past four years, he has worked for Masana Cleaning Services at Carnival City Casino in Brakpan.
One of Guda’s passions is sketch art, a talent he has developed since the age of six.

“I draw mostly portraits of people from the Tsakane informal settlement where I stay, but I can draw anything. People send me their photos and I work from that, either in pencil or charcoal, which are most popular.”

After Guda’s sketch of Carnival City’s general manager, Annemie Turk, caught her eye, his desire to job shadow and assist those in the marketing team became a reality and he has been temping since March 2022.

Guda assists in the marketing department outside his Masana work schedule.

“I help out the marketing team half-day, between 08:00 and 13:30, five days a week and then clock into work at Masana from 14:00 to 22:00 Friday to Tuesday,” said Guda.

“This means I don’t have a day off, but I want to learn about graphic design and marketing more than I want to rest, this is my passion. I am committed to pushing hard until I have learnt what I need to know”.

“I am learning a lot from DTP Operator, Tebogo Ramolobeng, and even though it is an unpaid position, I am appreciative of the experience and know I have already grown in the short time I have been here.”

Although Guda is unmarried and does not have children of his own, he supports his seven-year-old niece, who is looked after by his aunt when he is at work.

“I want to set a good example for Olwethu Guda, and show her that in life we do not give up on our dreams and if we want something bad enough, we must work hard to achieve it”.

“Lindile is a talented person who has a passion for sketching, graphic design and marketing, and Carnival City is pleased to be able to help someone who is so willing to learn, upskill and improve themselves,” Turk said.
