Flavio Hlabangwane declared fit to stand trial

The 27 year old is facing murder charges following the discovery of body parts in his in his house.

Murder accused, Flavio Hlabangwane appeared at the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Friday, March 11 for his mental evaluation report from the Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital to be presented before the courtroom.

The 27 year old is facing murder charges following the discovery of body parts in his house stashed in a refrigerator late last year.

Though Hlabangwane was expected to appear before the court on Friday, March 18, it was brought before the Protea Magistrate’s Court that the report be presented earlier.

The report stated that the accused is fit to stand trial. “With me I have the copy of the outcome of the report and it says that you are fit to stand trial. It further says that it has been concluded that at the time of the alleged offence you were able to appreciate the wrongs of your actions,” said the Magistrate, David Mhango.

NPA’s Phindi Mjondongwana said they welcome the quick assessment by the hospital. “The Sterkfontein report came back confirming that the accused is fit to stand trial,” she said.

Mjondongwana also stated that the information they got from the investigating officer is that the other body parts have not yet been found.

The matter has been postponed to April 20 and more investigations are still ongoing.
