The title deeds handover left the 75-year-old Paulina Monnakgotla joyful and at peace. “I am very happy and thankful to our government for making us people amongst other people. I don’t know where we would be without them. I waited for about 13 or 14 years for this day it is finally here. Now I will sleep peacefully knowing I’m a house owner. I know that if I die tomorrow my children will have a place to stay. No one can remove them from this place. I thank God,” she said.

Monnakgotla also added that her title deed will assist her in registering complaints with the municipality and it was definitely worth the wait. Other beneficiaries, David Koloko and Goitsemang Koloko expressed their gratitude towards the city for making their dream of being home owners a reality.

The title deed handover project started in 2008 after the Department of Human Settlements appointed a regional professional team to conduct a feasibility study to determine if all beneficiaries were from Naledi Camp informal settlements.

The project caters for residents from informal settlements and backyard dwellers.
