According to communications officer, Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, the incident took place on February 3 when two community members were behind Build It. One of the residents shared that they heard what sounded like a baby crying.

The male then asked another passer-by if he had heard the crying, and when they went to confirm their suspicions, they found a baby in a Mr Price packet abandoned in the veld.

“They proceeded to Eldorado Park SAPS Family Crises Centre and Victim Empowerment Centre where the necessary arrangements such as medical assessments and placement in a safe house were arranged for the newborn baby girl,” explained Gibb.

The Eldorado Park SAPS appeals to members of the community with information regarding the alias and whereabouts of the mother of the unknown infant, to urgently contact Eldorado Park SAPS on 011 946 0300. Residents are reminded that they may opt to remain anonymous.

Alternatively, you can contact SAPS Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111. “Eldorado Park SAPS would like to commend the bravery of the residents namely; Rodney Mansingh and Curwyn Wax for their heroic actions in saving an innocent life.

Their commitment and dedication will forever be remembered. The Eldorado Park SAPS furthermore extends their gratitude to the Healthcare Pharmacy situated at Crystal Mall in Extension 6 for their role in ensuring the wellbeing of the infant,” concluded Gibb.
