Stumbo empowering local entrepreneurs in the midst of the pandemic

The company recently gave vendors/entrepreneurs in Soweto karts from which to operate their businesses.

The candy company has launched its Stumbo Township Empowerment Project and recently gave vendors/entrepreneurs in Soweto karts from which to operate their businesses. The launch took place at White City, Jabavu.

“We came up with this plan to help vendors and entrepreneurs. This is a step up to create more income and grow their businesses in the midst of the global pandemic. So, we sent out an invitation to traders, we interviewed them, we asked them about their plans and their goals, we then selected those who met our criteria. Our Stumbo Kart operators are signed up for a year and throughout that year we monitor them, we up-skill them, we train them and give them support in their community,” said Stumbo Karts Operators Project manager, Morelle Jacobs.

30-year-old Ncedo Mabona from Emdeni was just selling sweets next to a local school when this initiative came through for him.

“This came as a better solution for me, as I was based in one place, now I can move around and go where there is business whenever my usual spot is dry. I can go to events plus we are not restricted to selling just sweets we can sell snacks, airtime and other things. This is also a financial relief because I no longer have to worry about the costs of travelling to buy stock as they stock for us,” Mabona said.

For starters, five selected vendors received these karts in addition to that, they received certificates for completing the empowerment programme and the company says in the next coming weeks, more vendors will receive these karts.
