“The whole time I was looking at my family. They really came out in numbers to support me as they always do and their presence made me feel very confident in my ability. I always say that support is very important. It can be family, It can be friends but whatever that you are doing, if you are going to be successful, you need real support behind you and I’m grateful to be able to say I have that genuine support,” she said.

The Unisa law student is no newbie to pageant competitions, having been a 2019 Miss Empress Semi-Finalist and 2020 Miss Soweto Finalist. She said the major difference this time around was the amount of dedication she had put in.

“It was different to anything I have ever done. There was definitely a lot more dedication and preparation that went into this one. I spent a lot of time learning and understanding what it would mean to be an ambassador of such a great brand. Ultimately, I think that was a major difference,” she explained. On the pressure of her new title, Chauke said she was not at all fazed by the new role.

“I understand that (pressure) because I’m the first to hold this title I have to set the standard. There is no reference or footsteps to follow. But it is a challenge I look forward to and one I am proud to take on,” the 22-year-old said. In addition to the win, Chauke is still determined to continue her community work.

“It is very important for me to be able to continue the work I have been involved in within communities. I hope to be able to donate clothes to more families this year and I would like the food parcel drive to be a monthly thing. I also want to continue raising awareness on mental issues, especially among the youth,” she said.

Chauke closed off by extending a message of gratitude. “I have to thank my family and friends for all the support. I want to thank sponsors that backed me throughout and I want to thank RSA Models Awards for trusting me with this responsibility,” she concluded.
