Pimville local shines on Hluphile series

While most would know her for her various community-building initiatives, Pimville activist Goitsimang Eland has landed a leading role on the new show called Hluphile.

While most would know her for her various community-building initiatives, Pimville activist Goitsimang Eland has added a new skill to her already impressive track record.

The 25-year-old landed a leading role on the new show called Hluphile. The show aired its first episode last Wednesday and follows the ups and downs of good-life-chasing Hluphile (played by Eland).

She started acting as a hobby, featuring in several skits. It was her work here that caught the attention of producer Sibusiso HS, who would be instrumental in her casting for the Hluphile role. “I really enjoyed doing skits and always had a great time. I had no idea I would have the opportunity to be on a television show. It was intimidating but I value the faith my team placed in me and each other so I decided to give it a shot,” Eland said.

The 2021 Miss Township South Africa finalist added that the secret behind the show’s success was a fantastic crew. “I was very nervous when I started but very quickly got into the swing of things. Yes, there are moments where we argue, but we all just really enjoy working together and its’ been a very exciting journey. That is the secret ingredient I would say,” she explained.

Despite the initial fears, the acting bug has caught her and she is optimistic about the future. “I’m now pursuing it (acting) as a serious career path. This was my first crack at it and I’m hoping to get some roles, even more than that I’m hoping to learn more about the industry,” she insisted. For her short term goals, Eland said she would like to see herself clinch a role on Showmax’s The Wife and SABC’s The Estate.

While she could not be drawn into revealing details about the direction of the Hluphile series. She did reveal that viewers could expect some twists and turns. “There’s a lot of surprises along the way. There is turmoil there at some point. For our viewers, there is a lot to look forward to,” she said.

Hluphile airs every Wednesday at 21:00 pm on Soweto TV (DSTV Chanel 251) and Channel 488 on StarSat. Repeats are every Friday at 20:30 pm.
