“I heard my daughter coughing and as I glanced over at her she was scratching her eyes. For the first time, I smelt tear gas, in a democratic South Africa. We had been sitting by the window watching the chaos unfold of the looting that took place in Jabulani Soweto.

“This song is an analysis of why there was widespread looting in South Africa and makes a comment about the influence of social media on the psychology of the populous. This can’t be freedom,” commented Nomisupasta.

Nomisupasta is an academic, artist and social activist who fights for change, she has started an initiative called #FunkItImWalking that aims to make it safe for women to walk at any time of the day in any condition. The song looks at how society is going in recent days

“I see what is happening in society and I put it to song. My songs are not about a good time, but about the times we are living in. I’m asking questions, engaging my peers in critical thought.” concludes Nomisupasta.

Nomisupasta featuring Thandiswa Mazwai’s Instalife is expected to drop next month.
