Miss SA visits ADET in Westbury

Primary School learners interact with Miss SA 2021 Lalela Mswane, a few days after she is crowned.

During her fifth day as Miss South Africa 2021, Lalela Mswane visited African Digital Education Trust (ADET) in Westbury.

The newly crowned Miss SA interacted with children from Westbury Primary, Claremont Primary, Dowling Primary and other surrounding schools.

Mswane shared that she chose to visit ADET because of the organisation’s objectives along with the work that they do in the community. “It is really in line with my campaign and the core values which I stand by. This is to empower the youth and that’s what I am about. I hope to return here to Westbury because I have a foundation myself called the Lalela Mswane Foundation so I hope that I can a collaborate and do many amazing things here. This is not my final visit,” said Mswane.

During her speech, Miss SA 2021 spoke about unemployment and how it affects the youth. Up until four days ago, (before her crowing) she was unemployed and said that she can speak from a place of experience and understanding the struggles of unemployment.

“When I was younger, I was bullied because I didn’t look like everyone else, I was this dark lanky girl and I was often told that I will never achieve anything because of how I look. I knew that I had a dream in my heart that I wanted to achieve and to show people and myself that anything is possible. I think that if you are educated, you are so much more empowered, you must meet the system halfway. I want to encourage each and everyone here to focus on your studies and to never stop dreaming,” said Mswane.

After her speech, Miss SA 2021 had a session where the children got to ask her questions and after that a little girl named Kimberly Bendaman sang for her.
