Motorists urged to be more vigilant to avoid becoming a hijacking target

Eldorado Park SAPS once again cautions motorists against sitting in their vehicles that are parked along the road and driveways, especially within the Freedom Park vicinity.

Eldorado Park SAPS once again cautions motorists against sitting in their vehicles that are parked along the road and driveways, especially within the Freedom Park vicinity.

Due to the noncompliance of previous warnings and precautions, Freedom Park has suffered a significant increase in carjackings, robberies and in unfortunate instances, murders. Most of these acts emerge due to people who tend to remain seated in stationery vehicles.

Communications officer, Constable Roxanne Gibb shared that motorist and passengers visiting relatives or friends are therefore urged to exercise caution and to avoid making themselves easy targets to the perpetrators, who tend to pry on the vulnerability of potential victims. Vehicles should instead be parked off in an enclosed yard or garage.

Another matter for concern is the recent spike related to the hijackings of e-hailing services along Boundary Road, in Eldorado Park. Residents are requested to contact Eldorado Park SAPS should they witness or are familiar with the offenders committing these unlawful acts. Any information that may lead to arrest and prosecution should be reported to the Eldorado Park SAPS tracing team, investigating officers or the Visible Policing commanders.

Eldorado Park SAPS furthermore calls upon parents to reprimand their children who tend to jump onto the back of the buses. “Parents need to ensure that their children refrain from conducting such dangerous and life-threatening activities. In recent incidents, the buses have sustained damages, and should any minor be found to be conducting any of these acts, Eldorado Park SAPS will not hesitate to exercise the full might of the law on the children and parents or guardians,” said Gibb.

The Greater Eldorado Park is reminded that all tip-off’s or information regarding crime or the intention thereof can be reported to SAPS Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111 or directly to Eldorado Park SAPS on 011 9460300.
