#IMadeMyMark: Voting got off to a good start in Soweto

No reports of disruption or protests across Soweto on Election Day.

Sowetans started coming out in their numbers to vote. Despite electricity related protests in Orlando East and Chiawelo, the situation remained calm on Monday morning. No reports of disruptions were reported across Soweto and Eldorado Park.

President Ramaphosa was accompanied by Joburg Mayor Mpho Moerane and Premier David Makhura in Chiawelo where he cast his vote.

Residents of Sun Valley in Pimville Zone 7 also came out in their numbers to vote despite threatening to boycott the elections due to electricity issues.

During the final voter registration weekend, residents of Sun Valley closed a voting station. There was also calm at Dube Hostel which is notorious for violent protests.

There was tolerance between members of the IFP, NFP and ANC who set up stands next to each other and encouraged residents to come out and vote.

IFP leader and MMC for Housing Mlungisi Mabaso also arrived in Dube Hostel to cast his vote.
