“We are here today to speak to the youth and give them hope. As young people, we have to unite and hold hands. The youth of Lusaka is very talented and very optimistic about the future,” she said.

Nkabinde commended the community of Lusaka for supporting the youth.

“One thing that stood out for me is that the people of Lusaka care about their youth and are willing to play a role in helping them succeed. I think our role as a community is to ensure that we encourage them and let them know that their current present does will not determine their future. I think with a bit of support, the future is bright.”

The entertainment on the day featured performances by Imvuselelo Traditional Dance, Lethuthando community group, Amaniki Niki Urban Dance and Young Generation.

Nkabinde is also the founder of Uthando Impande Yempumelelo, a non-profit organisation dedicated to fighting social ills and helping young children through charity around Soweto. She concluded by calling on businesses and organisations to support the youth of the informal settlement.

“We are still reaching out to businesses and organisations to help and give these kids a better upbringing. Whether it is stationary, school uniforms and school shoes. We are all determined to help and we are happy to work with anyone who wants to be a part of that,” the 20-year-old said.
