Songwriter, producer, businessman and musician, Cassper Nyovest is settling into his new role as the statesman of the South Africa music scene or more loosely, the ‘boring guy at the club’, as he put it. The 30-year-old says he felt he has reached a point where he has achieved everything he wanted to achieve in the South African music ladder and has turned his focus to breaking the international market while grooming Mzansi’s upcoming stars.

“I don’t think there is anything I could ever do in South Africa now – it’s just to maintain, to build new artists and give them a platform. I’m looking at the world and trying to take AmaPiano to the world, that’s the movement I’m proud of right now. But in South Africa, I’m just looking to work with new guys [artists],’’ Nyovest said.

The Doc Shebeleza hitmaker was speaking at the shoot of his Telkom Monate Vibes episode. The summer music show will return for its second season on SABC 1 and will see some of the country’s biggest artists take to the stage to perform some throwbacks, as well as new music. Last year, Nasty C, Ami Faku and TKZee were some of the talents that took to the stage and excitement has been building over who would be entertaining South Africans through the festive season this year.

Nyovest has all the credentials to be giving out advice to the newbies. The Fresh Prince of Maftown stands as one of the country’s most decorated artists since his debut album, Tsholofelo rocked the country in 2014. These days though, he’s not so much about making hits.

“I’m not even looking for a summer song. I think new artists are the ones who are gunning to have the biggest song. I’m cool, I have a big catalogue, I just want to lay cool and make good music that can stretch my catalogue and live forever. I might talk about [making a summer hit] but really, It won’t change my life. What’s one more hit going to do for me? It won’t change my life. It might change the next guy’s life. I’m just having fun,” he added.

Nyovest also spoke brightly about the success of his new sneaker range, thanking his fans for the support. He also expressed delight at being a new father, showing off a fresh tattoo of his son, inked on the rapper’s leg. His Telkom Monate Vibes episode will air on December 12, 2021.
