Eskort opens first franchise in Protea

More than 250 Eskort products sold at factory prices.

Eskort opened its first franchise butchery in Protea Glen last Wednesday. The store had customers flocking in with excitement to get their lunch hampers which were sold at a reasonable price on the day.

The store opened as early as 9:00 with more than 250 Eskort products sold at factory prices. Eskort caps were handed out to the first 500 customers. The food truck was also made available for food tastings and entertainment for the whole community.

“We have thus far employed 21 people. With 19 of them being residents of Protea Glen and the majority of them are in the youth category. Most of the employees were either unemployed or lost their jobs after the July unrest,” said Nkululeko Luthuli, the owner of the store.

Eskort established a relationship with Luthuli in 2018 when they worked together to find collaborative solutions to support and grow the processed meat industry. This gave way to an opportunity to grow a locally owned business that can now effectively serve the community of Soweto. “The decision to partner with Nkululeko as our very first franchise owner was born from shared interests and a passion for serving South Africa’s love for meat, especially our most loved pork Russians and bacon,” said Arnold Prinsloo, Eskort Limited CEO.

“His entrepreneurial spirit is inspiring and we are excited to see the business grow.” Eskort has over a 100-year legacy of investing and growing businesses, employing thousands of people, nurturing careers and livelihoods while continuing to offer South Africans the most delicious pork products. Luthuli’s entrepreneurial journey and experience developed from being an active Arnold Prinsloo, CEO of Escort South Africa, Johan van der Walt Eskort Vice Chairman, and Nkululeko Luthuli, franchise owner.

Participant in the South African economy has worked and invested in the meat industry for over 10 years.

“Eskort is a daily feature on almost every South Africa’s plate. I believe my experience in being a producer, distributor, and retailer in the South African food sector has put me in good stead to lead this business with Eskort. I believe my passion for servicing communities will be a welcomed addition to Protea Glen and the Soweto community at large,” said Luthuli.

“After a tough economic year, we are very proud to be opening our 10th and 11th butcheries. We are committed to continuing our local investment, creating business opportunities and giving our customers more access to their favourite products,” added Prinsloo.
