Miss Earth South Africa prepares for the international pageant

As spring begins to blossom and the sun begins to shine Miss Earth South Africa crowns Nompumelelo Maduna from Soweto.

Miss Earth South Africa announced their new ambassador who is born and raised in Soweto. The new Miss Earth SA is Nompumelelo Maduna, a market graduate who is currently doing her honours at the University of Johannesburg.

The Miss Earth SA pageant prides itself in advocating for the development of young women in South Africa as ‘environmental warriors’ who promote the use of the Earth’s resources in a responsible manner.

Since the announcement, Maduna made the pledge to plant trees, support the #WasteStopsWithME campaign and to educate young people about their role in the environment.

Two weeks ago, she walked through Kliptown and mentioned on social media that it is evident that they have lots of work that needs to be done there. On that day she also visited a vegetable garden which was started by Skin Renewal in Kliptown.

Maduna has also visited Blue Hills College where she planted trees with learners and she’s been involved in community clean-ups.

Miss Earth SA 2021 will represent South Africa at the international Miss Earth on December 12, in the Philippines where she will be using the opportunity to showcase climate issues and challenges from an African perspective and discuss the impacts they have on the continent.

Thaba Eco Hotel partnered with Maduna and the organization to host the announcement of her crowning.

Ella Bella Leite, director of the Miss Earth South Africa Leadership Programme said; “Our new Miss Earth demonstrate clear leadership qualities, creative thinking, strength of the mind and a bubbly personality and we are thrilled to be announcing our new ambassador. Over a period of two decades, we can confidently say that we have added value, purpose and a knowledge base to a large group of our South African women that has helped move our environmental agenda forward. We are proud of this footprint.”
