A play that supports the LGBTQI+ Community

A story about eight gay men.

Early last year Lefra Productions had announced that their hit play Love! Valour! Compassion! by Terrence McNally would be making its way back to the stage in celebration of its 25th anniversary. However, the shutdown due to the pandemic put a damper on things.

Now that places have started to open up again, the production has announced that the play is coming back to take centre stage at The Market Theatre.

The play is about eight men who are friends and have to confront challenges that come with being themselves such as their love lives, AIDS, and dying over a holiday that they spend together at a farmhouse.

“The play may use eight gay men as its main focus but the message behind it truly transcends sexual orientation boundaries,” said Gregg Pettigrew, director of the production.

Unfortunately McNally was one of the very first casualties of the pandemic, he died on March 24 last year at a hospital in Florida. What was meant to be an anniversary production will now be in tribute to him.

Pettigrew continued to say that it’s a play that every human being will take a message from and relate to.

He is proud to be heading the production that will carry the blazing torch of hope for the South African entertainment industry to get back to work after going through stagnations for so many months.
