The first princess makes it into Miss Soweto Top 40

Klipspruit West teen aspires to make a difference in her community through the pageant platforms.

“Many have the thought that modelling comes with only putting on heels, a cute dress and a bit of makeup but it is actually all about hard work and determination,” said Dominique Cilliers who has made it into the Miss Soweto Top 40.

The 19-year-old who is from Klipspruit West made it as Miss Eldorado Park 2021 First Princess and shared that it was always a passion of hers to pursue modelling and pageants. Miss Eldorado Park pageant was only the beginning for her.

“The pageant gave me the self confidence that I was lacking and now I want to empower other girls and women in our community. I would like to start a women’s empowerment group and also start a rehabilitation centre in our community because I have realised during these Covid-19 times, there are so many people who are battling with so many different challenges which results in them turning to substance abuse,” said Cilliers.

She describes herself as a goal driver go-getter who believes in hard work because it definitely pays off. In the near future she sees herself entering Miss South Africa and then Miss Universe. “I think the best way to plan for the future is to make the best out of the present. Take those small steps and trust the process you never know what it may lead to. I want to be the best version of myself and I want to be a role model to young girls in our community and also be the example and change that I want to see,” she added.

When it comes to who her role models are, Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni who is from Eldorado Park and was Miss South Africa 2015 is on her list, however on top of her list has to be her sister Algene Williams who has courage and goes for whatever she plans, she succeeds in everything she does, has deep empathy for others, expresses love, appreciation and fosters equality.

Cilliers concluded the interview by saying: “Thanks to the Miss Eldorado Park team for encouraging me to embark on this journey and not just stop after one pageant.  I was so confused on what I should study as I did not want to rush and study something I won’t enjoy or see myself doing but finally I will be studying Law next year. Thank you to Chante Jantjies for sponsoring me with the bursary and the Miss Eldorado Park team; Naeema Isaacs and Nazli Isaacs for making all of this possible.”
