Johannesburg district welcomes 102 new constables

The recently trained members were also cautioned to stay away from corruption or engaging with corrupt officials.

New police officers who graduated from the Tshwane Police Academy were welcomed by the Johannesburg District Commissioner, Major General Max Masha with station commanders and police officials from different police stations within the Johannesburg district on Monday, August 16 at Protea Glen Police Station.

During his address, Major General Masha said, “The deployment means a lot to the city especially under the COVID-19 circumstances which interrupted the normal training routine. It is of importance that discipline be a ruling principle that will sustain these new members in their journey within the SAPS.” The recently trained members were also cautioned to stay away from corruption or engaging with corrupt officials.

“In case you are not aware, there are people giving away information about corrupt officials. If you are one of them, stop it, and if you are not, report it. I am aware that sometimes there are temptations along the way, but remember, our duty is to ensure that corruption doesn’t take place and that we as law enforcement forces don’t abuse our power. Let’s avoid supplementing our salaries by taking other people’s money, especially street vendors,” added General Masha.

The new employees were also reminded of their duty to protect the vulnerable in communities they work and live in especially women and children.

“Women today continue to fight selflessly for the safety of their communities and this is exactly like the culture within the SAPS, that of promoting selflessness, discipline and dedication,” further explained General Masha. The deployment of the new constables across the province was welcomed as it will increase the work force and prop up crime fighting campaigns. The welcoming ceremony was graced by the presence of community servants such as pastors and chaplains.
