New Hope Rehabilitation Centre quickly becomes a home for many struggling with addicts

Waiting lists increase as more addicts try to enrol in Randfontein rehab centre.

In a space of four months, the New Hope Rehabilitation Centre based in Randfontein had hosted and treated men from Eldorado Park, Reiger Park, Westbury, Bosmont, Klipspruit and many other communities.

The New Hope Rehabilitation centre is a registered non-profit company and also runs as a faith-based organisation.

According to CEO and co-founder of the centre Conrad Andrews, they run programmes that help individuals find their purpose and although they have their group sessions, there are many one-on-one sessions that he focuses on. Recovering addicts are also required to do community work and the programmes also focus on building family values.

“I struggled from addiction and I lost a few family members from it so I started helping the youngsters because of my testament. There is always a problem before the addiction, the drug just distracts us from the problems. We allow the guys to stay on our premises and run a programme where we try to find the purpose in each individual so that they can go out and become leaders in their communities. I had gangsters and drug dealers but when they left our home, they became better individuals and leaders,” added Andrews.

Dorothy Motubatse-Hounkpatin is the co-founder and chief operating officer and explained that she met Andrews through the Universal Peace Federation where she learnt about the work that he is doing and decided to partner with him, they soon bought a house in Randfontein and started running their programmes from there.

With about 170 people on their waiting list, they can only take in eight to ten guys at a time and there is no set period on how long the guys can stay, it is only once the guys are ready to go bac into society then they can leave. The centre receives requests for females but they cannot accommodate the females at the moment.

Ralston de Vries was a beneficiary to the centre, quickly became one of the mentors and spiritual leaders at the centre. “I lost my job last year and then everything just went downhill for me. I started doing drugs after losing my job and it was difficult to pick up the pieces. I met a friend and he introduced me to crystal meth and that became my best friend. I was doing heinous things, I even forgot that I was a father, now that I am at the rehab, I am inspired to be a better man in society,” he shared.

The New Hope Rehabilitation Centre do not have any sponsors and are looking for any businesses or individuals who can sponsor to make the rehabilitation centre run smoothly and expand so that they can cater to more addicts.
