25-year-old woman arrested for murder of Kliptown Secondary teacher

Speaking for Kliptown SAPS, Captain Hitler Ngwenya thanked members of the public who swiftly provided information to the police.

Kliptown police have arrested a 25-year-old woman in connection with the murder of a school teacher. According to police, the school principal of Kliptown Secondary arrived at the Kliptown Police Station on Friday, August 6 and reported that one of the school’s teachers had failed to report for work since May. Officers then accompanied the school principal to the teacher’s residence where they found the door locked.

After forcing entry, police discovered the body of the 48 year-old-male in his bedroom. The body was said to be in a state of decomposition at the time of discovery. An official investigation was launched and on Monday, August 9, Police arrested a 25-year-female in connection with the murder. Speaking for Kliptown SAPS, Captain Hitler Ngwenya thanked members of the public who swiftly provided information to the police.

“We want to applaud members of the public for came forward with information that led to the arrest of the suspect. We further urge the public to continue working with the police in providing information that will lead to the arrest of others committing a crime in the Kliptown policing precinct,” Ngwenya said.

The deceased was originally from Cape Town and did not have any close family or relatives in Kliptown. While details surrounding the reasons behind the murder remain sketchy, neighbours who chose not to be named told Soweto Urban that the woman was sometimes seen at the late teacher’s residence throughout June and July and therefore were not suspicious of anything. It is also alleged that the suspect went as far as responding to messages on the deceased’s cellphone when concerned friends and family tried to contact him to not arouse suspicion, all whilst collecting the deceased’s salary in those two months. The young woman appeared briefly at the Kliptown Magistrate’s Court where she was denied bail.
