Kasi rapper goes mainstream

An Extended Play (EP) record by Snyden and Scarra finally dropped on mainstream digital platforms last week.

Who would’ve thought, an Extended Play (EP) record by Snyden and Scarra finally dropped on mainstream digital platforms last week.

The seven track Hip Hop piece is all about the hustle and longing for better days in the hood. The opening track, Amalanga awafani is a thesis statement to the whole record, with some motivating bars which remind everyone that there will always be light at the end of the tunnel.

Track two, Get mine almost became a rap clichĂ©, talking about getting money but both Snyden and Scarra’s verses are clean and the chorus is very catchy. Never fumble has a groovy feel to it, reminiscent of the sounds Dream Team and Witness The Funk even though the style is unique.

Things take an emotional turn on track six with Ngiyakukhumbula. This is Snyden’s lament about losing her mother and grandmother. The expression of grief comes equally strong on the chorus by Hey K who is featured on the track.

The EP finishes on a high note with Dlala mechanic featuring Wawa, a ghetto fabulous tune that is sure to get party animals loosing their morals on the dance floor.

Released under Visionary Sound, the EP encompasses a variety of sounds that are relatable beyond Soweto. It’s a story of hustling, grief, and having a good time.
