Man sentenced 5 years direct imprisonment for shoplifting

A 27-year-old man who was caught shoplifting at one of the big stores in Diepkloof Square last year was finally convicted.

A 27-year-old man who was caught shoplifting at one of the big stores in Diepkloof Square last year was finally convicted on Thursday, March 25 at the Orlando Magistrate Court.

“In 2020 a case of shoplifting was opened where the 27-year-old male stole items at a store Diepkloof Square. He stole items to the value of R485, he was then arrested and taken to Diepkloof Police Station.

“He appeared in court and it was discovered that he had previous shoplifting cases where he was fined and paid admission of guilt,” said Diepkloof SAPS spokesperson Captain Phephi Matlou.

He was sentenced to 5 years of direct imprisonment with no fine.

” This is a good conviction the community must learn from this sentence that crime doesn’t pay it does not matter how small the matter is people must know that they will be arrested,” Phephi concludes.
