Gail Britoe Foundation turned 9-years-old on Mandela Day

There was soup, cake and a whole lot of party packs at the birthday celebration in Eldorado Park.

The Gail Britoe Foundation celebrated its ninth anniversary on Mandela Day, and in keeping with the tradition of doing something to better the community for at least 67 minutes, the foundation had the children clean up the block by picking up litter.

Ensley Britoe who is the founder of the Gail Britoe Foundation shared that due to the Lockdown level 4 restrictions, no guests were allowed at the birthday celebration. Although the celebration was not as big as previous years, the children had fun as they sang the national anthem, ‘Happy Birthday’, shared a few words of what the organisation means to them, ate the soup with bread, and then received a slice of cake with a party pack.

“It’s an honour to celebrate our birthday on this day and I know that my mother Gail Britoe would be so proud of what the organisation is doing in the community. It was great to clean up the area and it just teaches the children responsibility.

“We are so thankful to our sponsors who are always there for us when we are in need Zainodine Kaldine, Alleweya Goss, and Clement Nwokoro are a constant and we can always count on them. My Britoe family and our volunteers are also a blessing, they are always helping me out with the organisation with whatever I need,” said Britoe.

Amani Williams who has been a volunteer at the foundation for the last seven months added: “I would like to thank uncle Ensley for all that he does for us at the flats. Many children here come from homes where there is no income so the foundation assists with meals, education, and fun activities for the children. I would also just like to thank everyone who helps in making this foundation possible.”

After a fun celebration with their friends, the children all went home with full bellies and fun stories to share with their loved ones.
