Noordgesig sector 1 mergency team take a stand against non compliance to COVID-19 regulations

Wearing of masks is still a must.

With Gauteng bearing the brunt of the third wave of COVID-19 infections and a surge in hospitalisations at both private and public health facilities in and around Joburg, a lot of people are blaming it on non-compliance to COVID-19 regulations especially the wearing of masks.

They are saying many people have completely stopped wearing masks.

To curb this, the Noordgesig Emergency Team has taken a responsibility to ensure that residents are complying by standing at one of the busiest spots in the area in the morning to monitor and encourage residents to put their masks on.

“Noordgesig Emergency Team is a group of individuals who have been first aid, fire fighting, and disaster management trained. So, we are always the first ones to respond to any emergency in the community. We have a Whatsapp group chat where we communicate all things happening in the community,” said Alton Stephens of the Sector 1 Noordgesig Emergency Team.

“When we heard about the high number of coronavirus infections in Gauteng, we decided to take an initiative to save the community. We have realised that people have completely stopped wearing masks. This calls for concern, we needed to intervene,” he added.

It is concerning, some people are still not bothered, some even gave this emergency team an attitude when they were being asked to wear masks.
