100 school shoes donated to Thlolohelo Lower Primary School

Another highlight of the event was child abuse education session by the Teddy Bear Foundation.

Founder of the Youngage Foundation, Louisa Molise returned to her former primary school in Soweto to celebrate her birthday and give back to learners at Thlolohelo Lower Primary school in Moletsane.

In her mission, Molise was backed by various sponsors that included Mutualism Investments, Hungry Lion, and the Teddy Bear foundation amongst others.

On the day, 100 pairs of school shoes, Hungry Lion meals, Vumatel bags, cloth masks, and food parcels were donated to learners. Speaking at the event, Molise said it was important to invest in the youth.

“I felt it was important to come back to this school because I believe there is so much talent and potential that these kids have,” she said.

“But they need support from the community, which is us, and that’s why we are here.”

Margaret Mavuso, the school’s principal, said Molise was a real role model to the kids.

“We appreciate her remembering her roots. Louisa could have spent her day partying somewhere or having fun but she remembered where she comes from and decided to give back. I want to thank her, thank the sponsors and everyone who contributed to this beautiful day,” Mavuso said.

The event’s primary sponsor was Mutualism Investments, which purchased the school shoes. Speaking at the investment company, Angel Masiza said explained why the financing firm supported the initiative.

“What was special about this was that it was about children and it was about education, which is non-substitutable, these are rights and that’s why we were proud to get on board,” she said.

Other sponsors included Hungry Lion who donated 134 meals to kids, the 100% foundation that donated food parcels to support the school’s feeding scheme, the Teddy Bear Foundation, the Nozazi foundation, and Vumatel.

Another highlight of the event was an educational session on child abuse by the Teddy Bear Foundation. Parents were taught tips and strategies on how best to identify if a child had been the victim of sexual abuse and how to get assistance from the relevant authorities.

Molise concluded the day by thanking all those who were involved.

“I received huge support from the ward councillor so I want to say thank you. Pretty much everything you see here today was from our sponsors, we couldn’t do it without them. Another big thank you to the team of young people I work with who have worked so hard to make sure everything goes well,” concluded Molise.
