Pimville’s Goitsimang Eland makes the Top 20 cut

Only 20 contestants have made it to the finals among the 70 who started the journey.

Pimville resident, Goitsimang Eland has made the final cut for the Top 20 finalists of the 2021 Miss Township South Africa pageant contest.

The 24-year-old said the journey had taught her the importance of giving back to her community. She was announced as a Miss Township South Africa finalist on Saturday, May 29. Only 20 contestants have made it to the finals among the 70 who started the journey.

“It has been amazing from the onset in March. We have been doing a lot of work with communities and that teaches you how important it is to help out. To see the positive impact you have been able to make in people’s lives is inspiring,” she said.

Eland has been extensively involved in community outreach programmes. She is also the co-founder of Joy and Social Events – a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) that is responsible for several community-building donation drives since 2019. Her ambitions even go beyond pageantry.

“There is a lot I hope to achieve, for example, last year I launched an anti-Gender Based Violence (GBV) session where I was able to invite a self-defense coach to teach people in Pimville some basic self-defense skills in the case of an attack. The response we got from people was very positive so I’m hoping to continue with that and host another session later this year,” she confirmed.

Eland is also still on track with her clothing drive where she collects clothing donations and gives them to the underprivileged or charity organisations. Her overall goal, she said, was to uplift communities.

“I’m hoping to see people stand up, follow their dreams and be fearless. I also hope, through the work we do, people can also be motivated to give back,” she said.
