A park now a danger zone for residents in extension 8

The park is situated on Boundary Road and has children from both Eldorado Park and Kliptown playing in it.

The park in Eldorado Park, extension 8 has been known by locals as a danger zone for a long time.

The park is situated on Boundary Road and has children from both Eldorado Park and Kliptown playing in it. One of the first things that are evident when you arrive at the park is the illegal electrical connections which start at a pole of a streetlight in the park and it goes across the road into Kliptown.

A resident and community activist Bishop Robertson pointed out the issues that they as residents nearby face.

“The illegal connections have been here for many years. It has been reported to the ward councilors for years but nothing has been done to disconnect them.

“As a community leader here in Eldorado Park, I feel that it is wrong for residents in Kliptown to have illegal connections because they have electricity that is supplied to them. Officials have failed to take down the illegal electrical connections but at the end of the day, politicians still want us residents to vote for them when they are not helping us,” shared Robertson.

Another resident who walked by during the interview in the park added that they do not have working streetlights and that it is dangerous in the area at night because it is so dark.

Robertson added: “The park is very dangerous for our children who are playing here under the illegal connections, people are getting robbed and there have even been people who have been killed in this park.”

The residents in the area seem to have given up on those who are in power in the community and can hope that change will be made since the ward is now under a new political party.
