50 food parcels donated in Kliptown

The event was held at the Kliptown Community Centre in Soweto and received support from the greater Kliptown Community Policing Forum (CPF), the Kliptown SAPS.

50 food parcels were donated to families and individuals in dire need in Kliptown. The donation was from Woman Alive Soul Healing Gauteng during a community outreach on Saturday.

The event aimed to unite the community during the Covid 19 pandemic. The event was held at the Kliptown Community Centre in Soweto and received support from the greater Kliptown Community Policing Forum (CPF), the Kliptown SAPS.

Additionally, various community-building organisations were invited to the event and allowed to present themselves to the community members

The Chairperson of Woman Alive, Dr. Eva Seobi said the impact of the covid pandemic is what urged her and her team to reach out.

“It is a day of healing, and as we know there are also physical needs and those needs include food. We know a lot of people are unemployed, a lot of people lost their jobs due to the impact of covid. So we are not just here to heal the soul, but we also wanted to give something that can lighten the burden a bit,” she said.

“Gender-based violence is a huge problem in our community’s drugs and illegal liquor outlets are some of the generators of crime in our area. As the SAPS, in conjunction with the Community Policing Forum, we are committed to aggressively make a difference in that regard. We also commit to being a part and parcel of the fight against GBV. I believe wholeheartedly that a partnership will be formed here and together we can make a huge difference to our community,” said Llyod.

Chairperson of the CPF, Billy Petersen said the CPF was proud to involve in projects that build the community.

“We do what we do for a good cause; for our communities. So we are always proud t to be part of an event like today, that seeks to help the community,” he said.
