Young artists deserve a chance says Pimville’s Discolight

Discolight has been hard at work and recently launched an EP titled Amalanga Awafani earlier this year.

Soweto has an abundance of young and talented artists but they aren’t getting the platform to showcase their talent. That was the message from Pimville’s upcoming rapper, Discolight.

The 17-Year-old was speaking to Soweto Urban on the place of young artists in South Africa, particularly, Soweto.

“I think more young people should be getting a chance, I think the younger ones are hungrier for success. That’s what needs to change the music scene. I think there is too much rotation of the same people at the top and we need something different in rising artists,” he said.

Discolight, real name Siyanda Sibeko has been hard at work and recently launched an EP titled Amalanga Awafani earlier this year. The title, Disco said he chose the name to inspire people.

“I wanted to inspire people, to say that not all the days are the same. If you want to do something, don’t give up, keep trying and one day it will work out. Push until you get to what you want to get,”
Disco admitted though, that working on the EP was more challenging than he anticipated.

“There were challenges, of course, sometimes you want to feature someone and you don’t get the lyrics in time. The producers meanwhile are breathing on your neck because they get charged for studio time. So it can be a stressful situation for everyone. The lesson was patience. I had to be patient until everything worked out,” he said.

The EP was produced by Sesto Best and features a string of artists that included Bash.
Beyond the EP. Disco hopes to one day travel the world, inspiring with his music, he also hopes to work with fellow Sowetan, Killa Kau.
“He’s (Killa Kau) a huge inspiration. He’s from eKasi as well and so we share the same struggles,” said Disco.
