Shimi brings positive vibes to an infamous street in Meadowlands

The street is allegedly notorious for violence.

Those who stay in Ndofaya know the infamous Kak Straat, a street notorious for negative vibes, violence, and all the shameful things in the community, but local organisations and brands Othipride and Dondagraphics in partnership with 1852Events led by Shimi joined forces taking an initiative to change the mindset of people about the street.

Every first Sunday of the month they host an event called Shimi’s Garden, a family affair, that also caters to kids and according to the organisers, the event is not about partying and drinking, and apart from food and music, they are opening endless possibilities for young people in the area, allowing local brands to flourish through this initiative, the events also create a networking space in a more social environment, more like meeting as strangers but leaving as friends and family.

The name Kak Straat was introduced when those who stayed there did not allow anyone from outside to come and bully one of their own and this created a stigma around the street, that if you touch one of their own you will never pass in that street and that, of course, resulted in violent incidents.

Residents especially young people on these infamous streets say that they are united against anyone who comes to cause any violence that may cause any disruption and are pushing to keep instilling the positivity.
