Soweto-based Gauteng Sasol Women’s League side Soweto Fabulous returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 3 – 0 sweeping of North West University Vaal. The thrilling encounter was played at the Jabavu Stadium in Soweto.

The win was a welcome relief for Fabulous, who have had a disappointing season by their hefty standards. The side won their first game of the season with a 4 – 1 thrashing of Luso Africa before suffering a sobering defeat of the same scoreline against local rivals, Diepkloof Ladies. A scorned Soweto Fabulous redeemed themselves with a 5 – 0 thrashing of Lusaka Ladies the following week but could not replicate that form against Wits University, falling 2- 1 to the Johannesburg-based side.

Soweto Fabulous will have arguably their toughest test yet when they take on high-flying Croesus Ladies on Saturday. Croesus is sitting at the top of the Gauteng Sasol Women’s League table and has won all its five matches – the only side in the league to carry that winning streak. Fabulous may be given more confidence by the fact that the game will be played at home, where the girls from Soweto are undefeated and have turned Jabavu Stadium into Somewhat of a fortress. Still, though, the threat of Croesus, who has scored the second-highest number of goals (15) this season, cannot be underestimated.

The battle lines will be drawn on Saturday and match kick-off is expected to be 13h00.
