Noxolo’s alleged killer appeared in court

Refilwe Nxumalo accused of killing Noxolo Radebe made her first appearance at Protea Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Refilwe Nxumalo accused of killing Noxolo Radebe made her first appearance at Protea Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The 43-year-old from Zola is facing charges of murder after allegedly fatally stabbing 23-year-old Radebe in the early hours of Tuesday.

The case was postponed to May 12 for a formal bail application. It is alleged that Radebe was in a relationship with the accused’s son.

During the court session, the accused was asked if she is aware or has been informed of the charges she is facing. The accused admitted that she has been told that she is facing charges of murder.

The magistrate explained that should she be found guilty and be convicted of the crime at hand, the accused stands a chance of receiving a minimum sentence of 15 years in jail if she is a first-time offender, 20 years for the second offender, and 25 years for a third offender.

She was later asked if she had committed any crime before and the accused responded by saying she has no previous criminal cases.

The magistrate emphasized that should it be found that she lied about not having any criminal cases before the court of law, that will be counted as a crime.

The accused is set to remain in police custody.
