City Mayor Makhubo ups service delivery in Kliptown and Eldorado Park

Community members got a chance to engage with the Mayor and raise issues of concern to their communities.

City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Geoff Makhubo led the 120 Days of Accelerated Service Delivery in Region G from Wednesday through to Friday. The initiative saw Mayor Makhubo team up with JMPD’s Acting Chief Angie Mokasi, various Members of Mayoral Committee (MMC) including MMC for Community Safety, Mally Mokoena, MMC for Group Corporate and Shared Services, Loyiso Masuku, and MMC for Health and Social Development, Eunice Mgcina.

The first day kicked off at Kliptown’s Walter Sisulu Square on Wednesday where the elderly were given food parcels. Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) conducted maintenance on Klitptown’s iconic Boundary and Union roads where road potholes were patched and the Mayor conducted inspections of businesses.

On Thursday, The following day, Makhubo and his team headed to Eldorado Park’s Ward 18. Community members got a chance to engage with the mayor and raise issues of concern to their communities. These included, amongst others, sewer drainage problems at Eldorado Flats and the clearing of illegal dumping sites.

Despite the effort from the City, some residents were less than impressed.

“We are pleased to have the roads fixed but we know that it’s because the elections are close. These road has been terrible for a long time and we’ve been asking for them to be fixed. Kliptown has many more problems that need to be addressed,” said Kliptown Mapule Tshiamo.
