Eskort Butchery Xavier feeds about 540 residents in Kliptown

The Covid-19 affected many families in the community and the Little Rose Centre searches for more businesses to come on board to assist families who are in need .

A rib burger and cool drink went a long way yesterday for residents in the Kliptown and Eldorado Park area when the Eskort Butchery team from Xavier visited the Little Rose Centre yesterday.

The Little Rose Centre is a creche, a shelter, and a Youth Centre in Kliptown which offers day-care services, kindergarten classes, after-school programs, computer classes, dance workshops, and a soup kitchen.

Bongani Godide who is one of the administrators at the Little Rose Centre shared that their centre started in 1993 but was formerly registered in 1997. He also added: “We realized that with Covid-19 a lot of people lost their jobs and were deeply affected so we have been looking for companies and organisations that can assist us with trying to support the residents around the area.”

The retail manager at Eskort in Xavier, Mike Erasmus said: We are trying to give back to our communities because we get a lot of support from residents. We thought about how tough things are with the economy that is down due to the pandemic. We thought it would be a good idea to help out a centre like the Little Rose Centre who has many mouths to feed. This is the first to many of our projects in the community.”

When asked how the centre was chosen, the retail manager explained that most of his staff live in the Soweto area and they have identified the many centres in the area. They visited the Little Rose Centre the Tuesday and found that there was a great need to feed the residents in the community and that’s how they chose to assist the centre.

“We are catering for 540 people from small children to adults. It’s just a burger and cool drink but I think it would go a long way for the residents here,” said Erasmus.

Residents came in their numbers at the centre to receive their lunch meal for the day.
