Kliptown police urges public to keep the environment clean

Members of the station teamed up with the Move One Million organisation to clean up an area surrounding the police station as well as the front of the Kliptown Magistrate's Court.

Kliptown police have called on the public to play an active role in keeping the environment clean. This was said during a clean-up campaign held in Kliptown recently.

Members of the station teamed up with the Move One Million organisation to clean up an area surrounding the police station as well as the front of the Kliptown Magistrate’s Court. The initiative was one of Kliptown SAPS’s community outreach programmes that seek to improve collaboration between the police and community members.

The spokesperson for Kliptown police, Captain Hitler Ngwenya said the station is always keen to work with the community. “It is one of the initiatives we’ve been fortunate to be a part of. The station belongs to the people and is part of the community. When the people feel that it could use a cleaning and raise their hands to join us we are always glad, we thank the Move One Million team,” he said.

Ngwenya also explained how a clean environment may help in reducing crime. “Another key point is safety. When we clean the neglected spaces and cut the long grass it improves visibility. Open spaces that are left unattended become high crime spots due to the high bushes and grass. We hope to encourage the community to try and keep these spaces clean,” he said.

On future possible collaborations, Captain Ngwenya said the community is always welcome to reach out to the station with projects and the station would help where possible. He also encouraged community members to continue reporting all crimes to the station.
