It has been more than 12 months since the dawn of Corona Virus and teachers at Spark Schools in Protea Glen are still navigating the new reality of teaching.

Many new ways of teaching and innovating have been learned in the past year, Stacey Brewer the Co-founder and CEO of Spark Schools said, “One lesson we’ve learned so far is the fact that technology will never replace great teachers. In our schools, we have always viewed technology as an enabler to support committed and engaged teachers.”

Brewer further stated how the pandemic underlined the fact that sound relationships between teachers and scholars are the single biggest contributor to a lasting education.”

Differentiating between technology and teachers, Brewer outlined that teachers develop life skills, like adaptability, emotional intelligence, the ability to learn, and problem-solving skills while the former can deliver educational content and enable access.

Another one of the lessons that have been realised by the school is that it truly takes a village to educate a child.

Brewer said, “We have re-learned the significance of engaging with our learner’s families and our school’s communities. Families are equal partners in their children’s education, so we must walk this road together and establish lines of communication with them.”

She derived this point from the reality that if a school understands individual learners’ backgrounds along with resources individually available for them in their communities, the schools would be better able to ensure that their learners get the best education they can.
