To ensure safer communities, integrated police operations were conducted in the Greater Eldorado Park, over the weekend. Police officers from Eldorado Park SAPS and their law enforcement counterparts, including National Traffic Police and Gauteng Traffic secured a total of seventy-three (73)arrests as a result of the integrated operation held over the weekend.

The successes ranged from possession of drugs, possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, housebreaking and theft, possession of suspected stolen goods, shoplifting, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, common robbery, armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition, reckless and negligent driving and drunk and driving.

Among the seventy-three (73) arrested, twenty-six (26) of these were concerning drunken driving and eleven(11) for reckless and negligent driving.

The purpose of the operation was targeted at ensuring and enforcing road safety, especially as we approach the Easter Festive period. Citizens are advised to practice responsible driving and road usage. There will be constant operations to address the high fatality rates on our roads as well as to address the dangers of the high rate of persons driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. These integrated operations will be held in the Greater Eldorado Park precinct, more frequently as persons choose to ignore the laws relating to drunken driving and also driving unroadworthy vehicles. This is evident from the arrests that occurred this past long weekend. Persons are again sensitised of the perils of drunken driving, recklessness on the roads, and the importance of driving roadworthy vehicles.

There will be a zero-tolerance towards any reckless behaviour on our roads. Everyone is urged to take responsibility and ensure caution when driving, as well as be considerate towards all road users, including pedestrians.

These integrated operations are also addressing crime hotspots in the Greater Eldorado Park precinct. Criminals are cautioned as to the SAPS and our law enforcement partners will fulfill our mandate of creating safer communities. There will be a zero-tolerance for crime and criminals. Communities are urged to continue with providing the SAPS with information on crime and the criminals committing these crimes. All information is acted upon and you may remain anonymous with your Crime tip-offs. Do crime than be prepared to do the time.

The community can expect more of such operations in the coming days leading up to and including the Easter Weekend. The operations were welcomed by many residents of the Greater Eldorado Park precinct who expressed delight in the high visibility as well as the many successes that were achieved during these integrated operations.

It is encouraging when communities welcome more of these operations without minding minor inconveniences during the operations. Community members and leaders expressed their sincere gratitude to all the law enforcement officers.

The detainees will appear in the various courts during the week.
