A few months ago, a group of residents discussed the challenges that residents face in Eldorado Park, and after discussions, they started their organisation called the Greater Eldorado Park Community Council (GEPCC).

The public relations officer, Anthony Hully explained that the organisation believes in holistically dealing with issues. “It’s not just about fixing potholes and lights but we are looking at ways to empower our people with education and job creation too. This is all a long process and we understand that everything won’t happen overnight. Our community has been let down by political parties and the government and it seems like we are a rejected community. We will work with organisations who have passion for Eldorado Park,” he said.

The council has had several meetings since its existence, one of those meetings was with the Eldorado Park SAPS. Klipspruit West and Kliptown are also included in this organisation’s vision.
Hully added: “We would like to bring change to the community and to change mindsets. People tend to think that Eldorado Park is a dangerous community but we know that there are good people in Eldorado Park. Many people left Eldorado Park. It is time to come back and give back to the community.”

GEPCC has the vision to have representations from the different extensions in the community and then they will also have different street representatives. The council is currently in the process of setting up street meetings so that the systems can be put in place.

Dion Rezany who is the chairman of the council said that they want the greater Eldorado Park to be a solution-driven society. “The community needs to take charge of their community. Gone are the days where we are going to be managed by any other political party. Nothing about us without us,” Rezany shared.

Joe Evans who is a co-opted member for GEPCC also added, “Both of our ward councilors resigned and now the community is supposed to be in a vulnerable state but we as a community are surviving without these political entities.

Our organisation wants to be very transparent with our mission.”

The Greater Eldorado Park Community Council is made up of the following members; Anthony Hulley, Dion Rezany, Collin Heynes, Joe Evans, Toni Heyes, Faradeba Evans, Stanley Botha, Riaan Niewenhuys, and Candice Major.
