Klipspruit West resident speaks out on the lack of service delivery in the area

Long grass, illegal dumping and snakes in their homes, these are just a few of the issues that residents from Klipspruit West, extension 2 have to deal with.

Long grass, illegal dumping, and snakes in their homes, are just a few of the issues that residents from Klipspruit West, extension 2 have to deal with.

A resident who has lived in the area for over forty years, Melanie Massingham, remembers the days when what locals know as ‘the dip’ was known for its exciting soccer tournaments during the weekends. Nowadays the area has no positive activities due to the lack of maintenance when it comes to grass cutting.

“The issue here in our area is that there is no service delivery, people are getting robbed here in the bushes, at night we hear screaming and it is too dangerous to even run out to see what is happening. We are not happy with the conditions around here. Some people say the Klipspruit West, extension 2 is the suburbs, a suburb is clean, it does not look this filthy,” said Massingham.

The resident who walks through the long grass every day to work explained that 2018 was the last time the grass was cut in the area. She also added there are rats the size of cats that run around there in their area, and neighbours who live nearer to ‘the dip’ find snakes in their yards and homes.

“The political parties only want to come cut the grass when it is election time but they are not consistent once they get our votes and are in power. We are tired of this now,” said the frustrated resident.
