After 6 years of waiting, a mother finally gets the wheelchair she needed

Last year, community worker and ward committee member of ward 18, Romaine Alves managed to get a wheelchair donated to her so that she can assist a resident in need.

Last year, community worker and ward committee member of ward 18, Romaine Alves managed to get a wheelchair donated to her so that she can assist a resident in need. The resident who was assisted was Katrina Phyllis from  who has since the donation been able to live a better life.

Recently, Alves in partnership with the Democratic Alliance (DA) Women’s Network assisted 23-year-old Zizipho Gusha, a mother from Freedom Park.

According to Alves, Gusha has been waiting for a wheelchair for the last six years, thus after using her wheelchair for thirteen years. Due to not sending the wheelchair in for maintenance, it got to a point where the wheelchair was no longer operating the way it should.

“Gusha could not express her gratefulness but just said thank you to the women’s network. We will in turn regularly visit Gusha and try to assist her where possible. She lives with her two brothers who are 16 and 17 years old and her son,” said Alves.
