Zola residents protest over electricity

The community members gathered together as a collective to raise their voices.

As reported by ENCA  in the morning, residents of Zola, Soweto took to the streets to protest over the lack of electricity in the area.

The community members gathered together as a collective to raise their voices. They allege to have been without electricity for months in the area, since June 2020. Since then they assert to have been in contact with ESKOM regarding that issue and were promised that the matter shall be fixed and even now nothing has been fixed and Eskom never came back to the community for an update.

Police did arrive at the area to monitor and ensure that the situation does not escalate. From Zola Clinic the residents then went to the councilors house demanding answers.

Illegal connections

Eskom, continuously states that illegal connections are the reason for constant power outages.

The ward councilor and Eskom had not made a statement at the time this article was published.

This is a developing story.
