Netball SA announces return to action

Netball South Africa finally has confirmed what many had been waiting to hear, that Netball action is set to resume.

Netball South Africa finally has confirmed what many had been waiting to hear, that Netball action is set to resume. Netball SA President, Cecilia Molokwane confirmed the news but said the decision had not been taken recklessly.

“The decision to resume netball activities was not an easy one because we are still amid a pandemic and we needed to be very careful on how we will do things going forward. This was a balancing act because the key to our list of priorities is ensuring that we preserve the lives of all our stakeholders whilst we play the sport we love. As the executive together with our Events and Compliance teams, we have put measures in place that will enable us to make sure that we protect the lives of everyone,” said Molokwane.

The news means that the previously suspended SPAR Challenge will continue as well.

The SPAR Challenge is set to take place under strict Covid – 19 protocols in a biologically safe environment in Cape Town, starting from March 24 to the 31st.
The teams are scheduled to meet for a pre-training camp between March 19 and March 23, 2021. Locally, while the recommencement of matches has not been set, Pimville Young Ladies Netball Coach, Mzikayise Mavuso said his team would be on standby to resume training.

“Everyone is ready to get back on the court,” he said. “The players have been asking when they can get back to playing. We’ll hear what the status is for local teams and take it from there.”
In hopes for the new season, Coach Mavuso encouraged parents to get involved more. “We want to build a much stronger team and have a stronger season. We want to work closely with parents and develop the right structures that they can be proud of when they see their kids participate in.

We hope parents can work closely with us, attend when we have meetings, and support their kids.”

He also revealed plans to open a senior division. “We do have plans in place for seniors. Players have come forward and asked why we don’t have one and I never have an answer, so I hope this year we can look into that. We welcome any players who have the passion and the desire.”
