Tsetselelo Chauke thankful to the online classes

The matric pupil is thankful for the support she got from her family, friends, teachers, and more especially Kutlwanong Promaths Centre which she has been a part of since grade 10.

The Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, released the 2020 matric results on February 22, 2021. Students from the 2020 matric academic year got their results the following day on February 23 via SMS, USSD, newspapers, or at their examination centers.

When the Covid-19 pandemic forced schools to shut down and go digital, matric class of 2020 pupil Tsetselelo Chauke, from Raymond Mhlaba Secondary School found herself at an advantage because she had been having online classes at Kutlwanong Promaths centre which focuses on teaching maths and Physical Sciences. The pupil specialised in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, English and Xitsonga.

“I had the best five years of my life. They were the most educational years. When I say educational, I mean I have learned a lot about myself and life. my high school experience is so unforgettable, it had been filled with many challenges and amazing moments that have helped mold my character. The 2020 academic year had been difficult and full of challenges, but we thrived, and for that, I am not expecting much but results that will grant me funding and space at university and at least a distinction in Life Orientation.” Said Chauke.

“ By its very very nature, the matric exam comes with a lot of stress and anxiety, the pandemic contributed much to this and I felt like throwing in a towel, but then I remembered my dreams and visions, I remembered the goals I had set for myself, this helped me thrived for more and add more effort in my studies. Some days were so difficult and I felt like quitting, telling myself I will start afresh once the pandemic is over and dealt with, however, these challenges made me stronger and empowered me to do better,” she explained.

“Due to the short period of learning matric syllabus, all the time was invested in classrooms. I had no time to evaluate deeper on my weaknesses. All weekends and all my time were invested in learning from the teachers.” She explained.

“The fact that the class of 2020 managed to write their final exams and covered the syllabus in just a short period due to the pandemic should add to their courage. It should give them motivation.” She further explained.

The matric pupil is thankful for the support she got from her family, friends, teachers, and more especially Kutlwanong Promaths Centre which she has been a part of since grade 10.

“Promaths provides extra tuition in maths and science to learners in grades 10 to 12 at selected schools across South Africa and I’m very fortunate to have been a part of them for the past three years.” She concluded.

What first began in Dobsonville, Soweto, 15 years ago, has grown enormously. To date over 8000 school children have been through the programme and in 2019, a staggering 224 distinctions in maths and 459 distinctions in science were achieved.
