Morning relief as 2020 matriculants finally see their results

The former Grade 12s braved a cold Tuesday morning and rushed to every garage, store outlet and anyone with a newspaper to check for their exam numbers.

A night riddled with anxiety was followed by a joy-filled morning for most of Pimville’s former Grade 12s. The class of 2020 finally got their hands on their matric results following the most difficult of all recent academic years.

The former Grade 12s braved a cold Tuesday morning and rushed to every garage, store outlet, and anyone with a newspaper to check for their exam numbers. Thaba Jabula High School’s Bantu Thabethe was one of many matriculants who could finally breathe a sigh of relief after spotting his exam number next to a Bachelor’s pass in the newspaper earlier this morning.

“I won’t lie, it was a difficult year,” said Thabethe.

“kuke kwaba nzima ( It got difficult) but I’m relieved to have made it through. Any 2020 matric learner will tell you that studying t home alone is not easy, but we managed to work hard and get the results.” Progress Comprehensive High School’s Gift Mangwane who claimed a Bachelor’s pass said although he was nervous, he was confident that his hard work would pay off.

“I got nervous for a bit, but I was also sure that the work I put in would pay off. That’s my advice to the class of 2021 – they just have to work hard and focus on their school work,” said Mangwane.

The Gauteng province achieved a pass rate of 83.3%, narrowly losing out to Free State province’s 85.1% in the first place. Gauteng can, however, take pride in the fact that the top five best-performing districts for 2020 were all in Gauteng.
