The Youngage Foundation donated five wheelchairs to  on Wednesday. The school is situated in White City, Soweto, and provides education to learners with physical disabilities and learning disabilities.

Youngage is a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) that has dedicated itself to improving the lives of people around the Gauteng province. So far the organisation has been responsible for school shoe donations, food parcels for the elderly, and back-to-school campaigns. NPO founder, Louisa Molise said the wheelchair donation was one very close to her heart.

“I have a family member who uses a wheelchair, I know hard it to get a wheelchair. So this was a very important project for the learners. We’ve been in communication with the school since last year discussing ways in which we can help and I’m very happy that today we were able to make it a reality,” she said.

Molise was also quick to heap credit to the day’s sponsors. She said the day would not at all be possible without sponsorship support.

Sizwe Mngomezulu from the 100% Foundation – one of the event’s major sponsors – said the foundation got involved because special schools are often neglected.

“We were more than happy to assist today. Special schools – especially in townships – are far too often neglected or under-provided for so this was something we were very proud to be a part of. We are living in a global pandemic and I think it’s important to help where ever you can. To the general public and stakeholders, we hope this encourages you to step up and help those in need.”

Speaking to Soweto Urban on the day, the school’s Occupation Therapist expressed gratitude for the donation.
“I think everyone from the school would agree that we are extremely grateful to receive this donation,” she said.

“Buying a wheelchair is a challenge, it is not an easy thing, so to receive five is an incredible show of support. I want to thank the Youngage Foundation and all the sponsors who got on board.”

In addition to the 100% Foundation, the donation drive received support from sponsors such as The Teddy Bear Foundation, Young Women Group, and Hungry Lion who brought happy-go meals for the learners.
