The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) has recruited young people for a range of jobs working at local schools.

This opportunity is initially for the youth between the age of 18-35, with no criminal record. Everyone who applied was allowed to choose what they would like to do, which ranged from admin assistance, examination assistance, repairs and maintenance, asset management, cleaning, general maintenance, IT and data, sports, health, and safety. However, most of the opportunities offered were that of education assistants and general assistants’ positions.

This great initiative has helped in keeping most of the unemployed youth from the street. Each school has employed at least 20 people for the program, and they resumed work last week Monday. Our reporter had an opportunity to meet with some of the assistants from Mambo primary school who narrated how the program will help them and also what they expect from it.
